Yoga Nidra Meditation for Rest and Deep Relaxation

Welcome to your Yoga Nidra practice—a journey designed to help you rest, recharge, and nourish yourself deeply. This meditation can be used as often as you like, making it a flexible tool for anyone seeking a profound sense of relaxation, especially if you feel you’re not getting enough rest or sleep in your life.

Unlike other meditations, this practice invites you to surrender completely, without being guided back to wakefulness. If you're using it during the day and need to continue afterward, consider setting a timer with gentle music to help you resurface gradually.

How to Begin

  • Lie down in a comfortable position, adopting a pose of complete rest.

  • Close your eyes and create a space where your body can fully relax. Use pillows under your knees or head for support, cover your eyes if you’d like, and wrap yourself in a blanket to stay warm as your body temperature drops during relaxation.

  • Let your legs gently fall open, arms resting by your sides with palms facing up or slightly inward. Feel your body melting into the surface beneath you.

This is your time to simply be—to rest, let go, and recharge. There’s no need to do anything or go anywhere. Just listen, and allow yourself to drift between wakefulness and sleep.

The Practice

  • Begin with deep, intentional breaths, inhaling calm and exhaling tension. Feel yourself softening and releasing into relaxation with each breath.

  • Transition into body awareness, bringing attention to different parts of your body systematically. Relax each area deeply, from your fingers and toes to your head and heart.

  • Set a sankalpa, a heartfelt intention in the form of a short, positive statement. For example, “I feel deeply rested and at peace.” Visualize this intention as if it’s already true, immersing yourself in the feelings it brings.

The journey continues with guided techniques to deepen your experience:

  • Explore opposites in sensation, like heaviness and lightness, cold and warmth, fatigue and restfulness.

  • Practice breath awareness by gently counting backward from 30, letting your awareness anchor to each breath.

  • Visualize calming and meaningful imagery—flames, a butterfly, the earth, still water—allowing each image to appear like a slide on your mental screen.

Rest in Stillness

The final part of this Yoga Nidra practice invites you to rest deeply in the silence and stillness of your being. You’ll feel grounded, safe, and at peace, letting go of tension and surrendering to complete relaxation.

Yoga Nidra is your sanctuary for rest, offering the deep rejuvenation your body and mind need. Use it anytime, whether to end your day in peaceful slumber or simply to reconnect with yourself in the middle of life’s chaos.
